On Monday of this week, Eric T. Costello was announced as the newest member of the Baltimore City Council. Costello, who formerly served as the Federal Hill Neighborhood Association President, will be the representative of the 11th district, which is comprised of Federal Hill, Bolton Hill, and the downtown Baltimore area. This high-profile position has Costello representing of one of the most culturally diverse and economically important districts in Baltimore, a task that his supporters contend he is well up to.
Costello Appointment Results from Unanimous City Council Vote
The sitting members of the Baltimore City Council elected Costello unanimously from a pool of fourteen potential candidates. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake swore in Costello to make the 33 year old New York native an official representative on the Council, and Costello will be resigning from his current job with the federal government so that he can represent his district full time. He replaces William H. Cole IV, who left the Baltimore City Council to accept a Mayoral appointment to become the director of the Baltimore Development Corporation.
Costello’s work with the Federal Hill Neighborhood Association has, in the eyes of his supporters, supplied him with the right kind of experience and knowledge to make his tenure on the Baltimore City Council a successful one. Particularly strong are Costello’s financial skills; his hard work and organization in that sphere could potentially help 11th district residents save money and enjoy economic success in the long run.
